Annual meeting of Unidos x la Costa
With a large turnout of members, Unidos x La Costa, the well-known majority residents' association of Orihuela Costa, held its annual meeting yesterday at the Emerald Isle facilities in La Florida, where the Board of Directors was renewed.
With a large turnout of members and following the outgoing president's farewell speech, a vote was held to renew the Board of Directors.
Outgoing president Tomás Moreno gave a positive assessment of the work carried out over the last year, highlighting the increase in membership, currently standing at 1,051, and the more than 11,000 followers on social media.

In his farewell speech, Tomás Moreno expressed his gratitude for the affection he had received during his five years at the helm of the association. He said he was pleased that the time and effort he had put in had been richly rewarded.
Inauguration of the new president
As the new president, María José Sánchez took over, thanking the outgoing president for his work over the last five years. She then encouraged all those present to join the project to get closer to the residents.
She called for collaboration between the different associations on the coast in order to have a closer relationship, to understand the needs of our urbanisations and to be able to show everyone the situation we are suffering.
With absurdities such as the rejection of the plot of land for the new brick school and the need for better public healthcare, it is essential that our support goes to those who truly defend the coast and are here.
The members of the new Board of Directors are: María José Sánchez as chair, Adolfo Hernández (secretary), Andrés Fernández (treasurer), Isabel Befán (vice-chair) and as members Liam A. Kiley, Candelaria Melero and Idoia Zarraga.
Objectives to be achieved
He promised to work hard to address the problems affecting the whole of Orihuela Costa, contacting residents to defend the rights of all, regardless of their political affiliation. He emphasised that the colours of the coast are the blue of the sky, the blue of the sea and the yellow of the sun.
There are many essential shortcomings and a lot of time has passed without any sign of an intention to provide a solution in line with existing needs.
A clear example of the treatment we receive as second-class citizens is the repair of the railing at Playa Flamenca, which, after many months of waiting, seems to us to be a mere patch-up job.

We will stand with those who share our interests. We want to be heard, but we also want to be listened to, and we will channel the useful vote of the coast ahead of the municipal elections in May 2027.
The new president clearly expressed her intention, stating that Unidos x la Costa will work for and on behalf of our coast and will support those who defend our rights.
