Emotional farewell speech by Tomás Moreno, outgoing president of the Unidos x la Costa association.
Dear members,
Before electing the new board of directors, I wanted to inform you that I have decided to end my time at the helm of the association, and therefore I will not be standing for re-election.
I have decided that, after more than five years dedicated to the association, the time has come to step aside so that the next generation can take over.
This will allow people younger than me to give our association the impetus it needs to undertake the evolution that, in my opinion, is required to defend the residents of Orihuela Costa.
Professionalising the association, taking it out onto the streets in neighbourhood assemblies to encourage physical contact with its members and neighbours, and promoting and supporting a political option that will stand in the May 2027 elections on behalf of all the residents of the coast are exciting tasks that I suggest the new board of directors start working on tomorrow.
The municipal elections of May 2027 are already on the horizon and the association should start working as soon as possible to ensure that the interests of the coast are represented as they deserve to be.
I would like to share with you my enormous satisfaction with the experiences I have accumulated during these years of work in the association. The time I have devoted to it has been amply rewarded by the recognition and affection I have received from members, neighbours in general and even from members of the various government and opposition teams.
Believe me, however much effort and work I have put into the association, I value what I have received in return much more.
Special mention to Liam A. Kiley, as a reference point for the British population on the coast
I would also like to publicly thank the members of the various boards of directors for their collaboration over the years, and I would like to make a special mention to Liam, who served as president for several years, becoming a reference point for the British population on the coast.
Now all that remains is for me to wish the new board of directors, which will be elected today, luck and success for the good of our association.
