Family associations, parents' associations and members of the school board have met with the media and the TV programme 1 Mañaneros to raise public awareness of the neglect we suffer at the hands of the local council.
Not only is there a lack of classrooms to meet the real needs of this area of the municipality, but the situation that is being endured in those that do exist is very sad.
The neglect suffered by Orihuela Costa on the part of the council is enormous, and when it comes to children, it is totally inconceivable that this situation could be allowed to continue.
We still have no boiler repairs and no heating oil
The Parents' Association (AFA) of CEIP Playas de Orihuela, together with representatives of the school council, have expressed their deep concern at the lack of effective measures to address the serious faults in the heating system.
After the Christmas holidays, pupils returned to school in particularly cold conditions, with temperatures barely reaching 3 degrees in the early hours of the day.
The school has been without heating since the boiler stopped working in March 2024. This situation has forced students to remain in classrooms wearing warm clothing and blankets, a situation that the educational community describes as unacceptable and lacking the safety and normal conditions required in public education.
We still have no solutions
This situation is not a one-off problem, but a long-standing issue. The seriousness of the case forced Orihuela City Council to launch an emergency tender. However, despite the official announcement, the educational community criticises the fact that no results have yet been seen.
At present, both families and staff at the centre lack information about the timeframe the City Council is working with to resolve the issue, so there is complete uncertainty about when the service will be restored.
