Fire on a Boat Under Repair in the Port of Cabo Roig

A fire broke out on a boat that was being repaired in the port of Cabo Roig, in Orihuela Costa, on Thursday. Despite the flammable nature of the materials and fuel, the incident caused no injuries and the fire only affected the boat, preventing it from spreading to other vessels in the port facility.

The affected vessel was specifically in the dry dock, undergoing repairs when the fire broke out.

Fire Brigade Intervention and Fire Assessment

The intervention of the fire brigade from Torrevieja was key, resulting in rapid and effective control of the fire to prevent further damage to the port. The alert was received at 7:20 a.m., and the work was officially completed at 11:14 a.m.

The operation mobilised a Command and Control Unit (Unidad de Mando y Jefatura, UMJ), a Heavy Urban Fire Engine (Bomba Urbana Pesada, BUP) and a Heavy Tanker Fire Engine (Bomba Nodriza Pesada, BNP). A sergeant, a corporal and six firefighters made up the team that worked for several hours until they managed to completely control the flames and secure the area.

Fortunately, the incident resulted in no injuries, with only material damage reported to the affected vessel.

Although the exact causes of the fire have not been revealed at this time, it has been confirmed that the fire originated while the ship was undergoing repairs.
